Summer sees fewer tourists heading to the Thar; winter brings crowds to Sam Dunes. We adjust fares in response, but we tell you the rate when you call, not after you have committed.
One-way drop versus round-trip versus the per-kilometre model
Our one-way pricing is simpler for most travellers: you book a cab in Jodhpur, it takes you to Jaisalmer, you pay once and step out. There is no return cost because there is no return trip. The driver may pick up another passenger heading from Jaisalmer back towards Jodhpur or elsewhere, but that is not your concern or your bill.
If you want the cab to wait and bring you back—say, a weekend trip—that is outstation pricing on a per-kilometre basis. A sedan costs ₹12 per kilometre; an Ertiga costs ₹14; an Innova Crysta costs ₹18. Outstation assumes 300 kilometres per day. In that model, you also pay a driver allowance of ₹300 per day and toll and parking at actual cost.
For a Jodhpur-to-Jaisalmer round trip with the cab waiting, the per-kilometre model usually costs more than booking two separate one-way journeys—but you have a familiar driver and a vehicle at your disposal the whole time.
What app-based services charge for the same route
Ola and Uber operate in Jodhpur but coverage in Jaisalmer is patchy. When they do quote, surge pricing kicks in during peak hours. A 250 km journey at 1.5x or 2x multiplier can reach ₹8,000 or ₹10,000—higher than our fixed rates, and the multiplier changes as you book. You might see ₹6,500, accept, and the fare climbs before the driver arrives.
For travellers used to app-based services, this feels normal. For those making a one-off trip to the desert and comparing prices honestly, the surge element adds real money to their journey cost. We do not use it.
When to book and what to budget for beyond the cab fare
Book 2–3 days ahead if possible. Last-minute bookings on busy weekends (September to March) sometimes mean higher prices or unavailable vehicles in your preferred category. If you book a month ahead during low season, prices may edge down.
The cab fare covers the vehicle and driver. Toll tax on the Jodhpur–Jaisalmer highway is not included—expect ₹500–700 depending on the vehicle type. Parking at hotels or tourist sites is extra. The driver’s allowance of ₹300 covers their meals and basic costs but is payable separately.
If you want a guide—someone who explains Jaisalmer’s fort, havelis, or the Sam Dunes as you drive—that is additional. An English-speaking guide costs ₹1,500; a Hindi-speaking guide costs ₹1,000. Many travellers skip this for a one-way drop and hire a local guide in Jaisalmer when they arrive, which is often cheaper and more knowledgeable about current local happenings.

The driver allowance is ₹900 extra. This bundles transport across three days; a simple one-way drop is cheaper if you only need the journey.
These packages typically include the cab, driver, and basic itinerary—Jodhpur sightseeing, the drive to Jaisalmer, Sam Dunes in the evening, and return. Accommodation, meals, and entrance fees are almost never included; confirm the exact scope when you book.
Comparing total cost: sedan, Ertiga, Innova
For a solo traveller or couple, a sedan at ₹5,000 is the budget choice. For a small family (four to five people), an Ertiga at ₹6,000 or Kia Carens at ₹6,500 offers more legroom without a sharp price jump. For six or more, or for anyone who wants genuine comfort on a 250 km drive, an Innova Crysta at ₹7,500 is worth the extra ₹2,500.
The difference between a sedan and an Innova is ₹2,500—about ₹10 per kilometre in per-person terms if you have three passengers. That is not trivial, but it is not shock pricing either. You are paying for the vehicle you are actually getting, not subsidising someone else’s cheaper ride.
Why local cab operators price differently from aggregators
We know the Jodhpur–Jaisalmer route intimately. Our drivers drive it several times a week. We know which tolls apply, how long it actually takes, how much fuel a Crysta uses, where the potholes are in monsoon. We set prices on that knowledge, not on algorithm-driven demand curves.

Local operators like us carry families and solo travellers who have booked weeks ahead. We cannot surge-price them off; we have already committed the vehicle. Our model depends on steady booking, transparent fares, and drivers who stick around because they live here and know the repeat customers.
How to verify the fare and avoid hidden charges
Call, do not rely on online quotes. When you call, tell us the vehicle type you want, the date, and confirm whether you need a return journey or one-way. We quote the total, including driver allowance. We tell you separately that toll tax and parking are extra at actual cost.
Ask whether the quote includes air-conditioning (it does), whether the driver speaks English or Hindi (confirm if it matters to you), and whether the vehicle has a USB charger or aux cable if music is important to you on a four-hour drive.
Do not assume the cheapest quote is the honest one. The lowest prices you see online—₹2,600, ₹2,945—either lack transparency about what they include or rely on pressure tactics to upsell you once you have committed. A fare that seems too low usually is.
The real variables you cannot control
Weather affects travel time and sometimes availability. Heavy monsoon rains (July–August) can flood sections of the highway; vehicles get stuck, and cabs are diverted or delayed. Heat in May and June can make some drivers reluctant to take long routes. We will still take you, but you may wait longer or pay a slightly elevated rate during extreme weather.
Police checkpoints on the highway add 20–30 minutes during peak season. This is not our charge; it is a reality of the route. It does not change the cab fare but changes your arrival time.
Construction or roadworks are rare but not impossible. We know current conditions and will warn you before you book if a major detour is necessary.
