For most travellers, a cab beats the bus on time and beats the train on convenience, but whether it’s cheaper depends entirely on how many people are sharing it. Travelling solo and light, the bus or train fare will usually work out less than hiring a whole car. Add a second person and some luggage, and the maths tips the other way fast.
Cab fares for Jodhpur to Jaipur
These are the current one-way drop fares, per vehicle, for the Jodhpur to Jaipur route:
| Vehicle | One-way fare | Driver allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Sedan | ₹5,000 | ₹300 extra |
| Ertiga | ₹6,500 | ₹300 extra |
| Kia Carens | ₹7,500 | ₹300 extra |
| Innova Crysta | ₹8,500 | ₹300 extra |
That fare covers the whole car, not a single seat. A sedan at ₹5,000 is the total cost for the trip whether one person travels or four, which is a detail many comparison pages leave out when they set a headline cab price against a per-seat bus or train ticket.

What actually matters when comparing costs
The bus is usually cheaper for solo travellers
That’s usually true if you’re travelling alone. A single bus or train ticket will almost always cost less than hiring a whole car. But once you’re booking two, three or four seats, you’re adding up several tickets against one flat cab fare, and the gap can narrow or disappear depending on the bus operator or train class. We don’t have current bus or train prices to quote here, and they shift with season and class, so it’s worth checking at the time of booking. What we can tell you for certain is our own fare, and it doesn’t change with the number of passengers up to the car’s seating limit.
The car you choose changes the price
Not quite. The price is set by the vehicle you choose, and that’s the lever worth using. A sedan at ₹5,000 suits two people with normal luggage. An Ertiga or Kia Carens, priced between ₹6,500 and ₹7,500, gives more room for three or four passengers with bags. An Innova Crysta at ₹8,500 makes sense for a larger group, or when luggage is the real constraint, since two large suitcases each fill a sedan boot fast. Picking the smallest car that comfortably fits your group is usually the biggest saving available on this route.
Door-to-door travel has its own value
It depends what door-to-door is worth to you. A bus or train gets you to a station or stand in Jaipur, not your hotel, so you’ll need to factor in whatever local transport you take from there, which we can’t price since it’s outside our service. A cab takes you from your Jodhpur pickup point straight to the hotel door in Jaipur. If you’re travelling with children or heavy luggage, that last-mile difference often matters more than the headline fare.
Check what the fare includes
Almost, but check what’s included. Our Jodhpur to Jaipur one-way drop fare has a ₹300 driver allowance added on top, so budget for that alongside the vehicle fare above. Toll and parking aren’t listed separately for this route, so it’s worth asking at the time of booking if you want the full figure before you travel.
When the bus or train genuinely wins
If you’re travelling alone, or your dates are flexible and you can pick off-peak departures, a bus or train ticket will usually cost less than hiring a car outright. It also makes sense if you’re comfortable managing your own bags through a station and don’t mind a fixed departure time rather than choosing when you leave.
When a cab is the better deal
Once you’re two or more people, the whole-car fare starts working in your favour, and by three or four it’s usually the more sensible choice. You’re not each buying a separate ticket, and you don’t need to arrange onward transport once you arrive. It also wins on flexibility, whether that’s an early morning departure to beat the heat or simply having the car for the exact time you want to leave, rather than the time a timetable allows.

Summer is where this matters most. Jaipur’s May daily maximum averages around 41°C (IMD climate data via Wikipedia, checked September 2026), and a bus stand or station platform in that heat is a different experience to an air-conditioned car door to door. If you’re travelling in peak summer, that alone can justify the cab fare over a cheaper ticket.
One thing worth planning around
If your trip lands in mid-January 2027, the Jaipur Literature Festival runs 14–18 January 2027 at Hotel Clarks Amer, checked September 2026. Jaipur’s roads and hotels get busier that week, so it’s worth booking your cab a little earlier than you otherwise would rather than arranging it last minute.

Once you’re in Jaipur, having your own car rather than relying on local transport for sightseeing has a real practical upside too:
Car rental is one of the effective alternatives for wandering around in Jaipur.
If you’re planning to see sights like Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal on the same trip rather than just passing through, arriving by cab means you already have transport sorted for the day rather than arranging it separately once you land.
